When designing your new website it is important to avoid simple mistakes:

Most people visit a website to solve one or more of four problems:

1. They want/need information – Directory Type Site
2. They want/need to make a purchase / donation. – Any e-commerce site
3. They want/need to be entertained. – Youtube
4. They want/need to be part of a community – Social Media

• You never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression
• A man from Mars should be able to work out what you site is about if they do not they will click away (bounce rate – Google Analytics)
• Avoid too much material on one page
• Make sure you site loads quickly
• Research your competitors websites…is there an industry norm that visitors may expect?
• Avoid text and background colour clashes
• Do not let the background image over power the text
• Do not use fancy font’s that are hard to read
